Really, really simple to set up! I try and clean it about once a week as my cat has long hair but that's probably overkill because when I do theres very little hair even in the filter that attaches underneath where the water gets cycled back down into the well. The pump that pumps water back up doesn't get clogged and even after 2 weeks of use before cleaning it was clear of any debris and looked as clean and fresh as when I first opened it.
